Weekly U.S. jobless claims tick upward
The number of new jobless claims filed by Americans unexpectedly ticked upward last week, CNBC reports. Initial claims for state unemployment rose by 4,000 to 277,000, seasonally adjusted, for the week that ended Aug. 15, the U.S. Department of Labor reported early Thursday. Comcast vs. YouTube? Media giant working on video platform, report claims
Comcast will soon launch a video platform to compete with YouTube, according to a Business Insider report. The platform would be called Watchable. Guess who just overtook Google as news sites’ top referrer?
A surprising source has surpassed Google Inc. as the top traffic generator for news sites, according to the latest data from a Web analytics firm. The Silicon Valley Business Journal reports that Facebook Inc. now steers more readers to news sites, driving 40 percent of the traffic compared with Google’s 38 percent in the May-July data. The trend started in October but has picked up momentum. In fact, as recently as the spring of 2012, Facebook accounted for just 10 percent.

Sprint, T-Mobile CEOs trade profane Twitter barbs ... again
In a role reversal of sorts, this time Sprint Corp. CEO Marcelo Claure took after antagonist T-Mobile US Inc. CEO John Legere on Twitter, poking his rival for a recent RootMetrics report, FierceWireless reports. First, Claure pointed that T-Mobile came in fourth in a recent RootMetrics performance report, with Sprint nipping at Atlanta-based AT&T Mobility’s heels for the No. 2 spot. He followed that with an Internet meme pegged to the “Straight Outta Compton” movie, FierceWireless reports. The…
