IRS: Data breach was worse — way worse — than first reported

The Internal Revenue Service conceded Monday that roughly 330,000 accounts were hacked and another 280,000 were targeted by identity thieves seeking access to social security numbers and other personal data it houses. The updated figures were more than double the numbers reported in May, when the IRS first acknowledged the breach in question.
